4 new train lines to be proposed to the government

Thailand’s Department of Rail Transport will seek approval from the incoming administration for the implementation of four train projects totaling 63.4 billion baht in investment.

The four train lines, according to Pichet Kunadhamraks, the department’s director-general, are:

The Red Line railway runs 8.84 kilometers between Rangsit and Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus. The anticipated cost is 6.4 billion baht.

The Red Line train, which runs for around 5.7 kilometers between Taling Chan and Siriraj, is anticipated to cost 4.6 billion baht.

The Red Line train runs for approximately 14.8 kilometers from Taling and Salaya, with an estimated investment of 10.6 billion baht.

The Brown Line will run for approximately 22.1 kilometers from Khae Rai and Bueng Kum, with a projected investment of 41.7 billion baht.

Pichet stated that the four train routes were chosen from a list of 33 under the department’s M-MAP 2 master plan for rail transportation in Bangkok and its environs, and that he expected the four routes to be operational in 2029.

He stated that the M-MAP 2 master plan was developed based on comprehensive public hearings held by the department to assess the rail needs of commuters in and around Bangkok, and that the four lines on the shortlist are mainly suitable for implementation.

Regarding the Brown Line, Pichet stated that the department has asked the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) to investigate if the route will have an impact on the railway concessions awarded to the private sector.
