5 Day holiday declared for Songkran

Songkran Bangkok one Feb 13 2024

The cabinet has officially declared Friday, April 12 as a special government holiday, thereby granting a five-day weekend for the upcoming Songkran festival.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced this decision, which was made two months ahead of the festival, to provide ample time for individuals and businesses to plan for the extended break.

The Prime Minister has also instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to promote second-tier provinces during the long holiday, which now spans from April 12 to April 16.

The conventional Songkran holidays typically run from April 13 to April 15, and April 16 has been designated as a holiday in lieu of Saturday, April 13.

The cabinet secretariat additionally emphasized that apart from boosting tourism, the extended holiday period is expected to alleviate traffic congestion by enabling individuals to plan their trips with greater flexibility.
