Following the 16th/2568 meeting of the Supreme Sangha Council (SSC) on June 20, the SSC meeting approved the guidelines for opening temple bank accounts, withdrawing money from the temple bank accounts, and the approach for preparing the temple’s income, expenses, and balance accounts, or the temple’s standard accounting system.
- Bank accounts must be opened only with banks that have a branch located in the same province as the temple.
- The account name must be listed as “Funds of Wat [Temple Name]” or simply “Wat [Temple Name]” only. The phrase “by [individual’s name]” is strictly prohibited.
- At least three individuals/monks must be designated as authorized signatories for withdrawals or check payments from the temple’s bank account.
- The abbot officially appointed by law,
- The temple’s steward (waiyawatchakorn) appointed by the abbot, and
- A person deemed appropriate by the abbot.
- For any withdrawal or check issuance, the signatures of at least two out of the three authorized individuals are required, and the abbot’s signature must be included every time.
- Withdrawals from the temple’s bank account must be done using the bank’s official withdrawal slip and the temple’s passbook only.
