71-Year-Old Thai Woman Arrested for Stealing Chinese Tourist’s Wallet at CentralWorld
BANGKOK – April 18, 2025 — Pathumwan police have arrested a 71-year-old Thai woman, identified as Ms. Weena, or “Wee,” on theft charges after she allegedly stole a wallet left behind by a Chinese tourist at the CentralWorld shopping mall.
The arrest occurred near Soi 47 on Rama IV Road in Bangkok’s Sathorn district. Authorities recovered evidence including Chinese currency, a Bank of China credit card, and the distinctive outfit Ms. Weena wore during the incident.
The investigation began after a 28-year-old Chinese tourist reported on April 16 that her gray wallet, containing about 20,000 baht, 800 yuan, and a Bank of China credit card, was stolen after she accidentally left it behind while shopping on the mall’s second floor.
CCTV footage showed an elderly woman, dressed in rose-colored glasses, a green and white striped shirt, and green pants with gold chain patterns, taking the wallet. Officers later located Ms. Weena, who matched the description, and found her in possession of 200 yuan, the stolen credit card, and a Chinese ID card.
Ms. Weena reportedly confessed, citing a momentary lapse driven by temptation. She has been charged with theft and is now in custody for further legal proceedings.
