Asok Montri Area Transformed by Underground Cable Installation by MEA

MEA, under the guidance of Thitivut Ngernklay, Deputy Governor (Operation Transmission), collaborated with a range of notable entities including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wisanu Subsompon from the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA), Assoc. Prof. Somphop Purivigraipong from the Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), and Rachan Pensiri from The Telecommunications Association of Thailand. Together, they have joined forces to remove communication cables along Asok Montri Road, covering a distance of 2.4 kilometers from Petchburi intersection to Sukhumvit intersection, subsequent to the completion of underground conduit construction.

As the state-owned entity in charge of electricity distribution in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan, MEA diligently adheres to government policies and Ministry of Interior directives by supporting the organization of communication cables. This initiative not only ensures convenience and safety for relevant agencies working on electricity poles but also aligns with the objective of enhancing safety, aesthetics, electricity stability, and accident prevention through the conversion of overhead power lines to underground systems.

Looking ahead to 2024, MEA, in partnership with various agencies, envisions the construction of underground communication cables along 29 routes spanning more than 61 kilometers. Key roads such as Asok Montri Road, Sri Ayutthaya Road, Rama IV Road, and Charansanitwong Road are among those earmarked for this transformation. Furthermore, MEA plans to collaborate with pertinent authorities to remove communication cables from electrical poles across a cumulative distance exceeding 570 kilometers at a pace averaging 45 kilometers per month. By 2025, MEA targets the conversion of communication cables on electric poles along a total stretch of 800 kilometers.

In support of these efforts, MEA endorses the installation of communication cable perches on electrical poles and ensures strict adherence to prescribed standards and criteria. This includes the establishment of a data management system for communication cables on electric poles, implementation of Smart CCM (Smart Communication Cable Management) for seamless online requests relating to cable installation, data recording for communication lines, and mapping of installation routes based on MEA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) to bolster information management pertaining to newly installed communication lines.

In addition to communication initiatives, MEA is actively engaged in an underground electrical cable project, with the goal of completing 313.5 kilometers by 2029. This collaborative endeavor aims to synchronize work on underground communication lines to minimize operational overlaps and mitigate potential disruptions to the public within the construction zones.
