Flights to the Chinese mainland will resume, according to announcements from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
Following the COVID-19 outbreak and the implementation of flight restrictions, which had a devastating impact on the travel business, both Airlines were obliged to cut back on their flying routes to China.
May 1, 2023 will see the return of service on all Virgin Atlantic lines, including flights from London-Heathrow (LHR) to Shanghai for both passengers and cargo. From April 23, 2023 until June 3, British Airways will resume service between London-Heathrow and Shanghai.

“We are eager to welcome back our passengers on our flights from Shanghai and Beijing. According to Noella Ferns, Head of Sales, Asia Pacific for British Airways, “We know they’ve been looking forward to reuniting with family and friends, traveling to the UK to study, and restarting business between China and the UK.

Since the Chinese government has loosened travel restrictions, Virgin Atlantic hasn’t operated a flight to Shanghai since December 23, 2020, but both airlines are gearing up for an increase in travelers.
“I’m thrilled that our Shanghai services have returned at last. It’s been a long time coming. Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, said, “We’re eager to welcome back our customers and provide crucial ties to one of the UK’s top trading partners, for both passenger and cargo flights.
She continued, “Shanghai is the last route to return after the global epidemic, restoring our aviation program to full capacity.
