Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn, a Thai cyanide serial killer, is charged with 80 crimes in connection with the killings of 14 victims and the attempted murder of one survivor. She now holds the record for having the most criminal charges filed against her in Thai history.
Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, the Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), stated today that there have been 15 victims of the cyanide killer, 14 of them have unfortunately perished from poisoning.
Sararat was first accused with intentional homicide, attempted homicide, and document falsification. The police indicated that Sararat would be charged with an additional three to five counts per case, for a total of 80 crimes, after thoroughly investigating each case. 40 charges would reportedly be filed this week since the evidence was convincing. The 40 additional charges, however, will be examined later since further information was required. More allegations against Sararat include, for instance:
Adulterating food, drugs, or other items meant for human consumption or use with the intent to harm health is a crime, according to Section 236 of the Criminal Code. The punishment consists of a maximum three-year sentence in jail, a fine of 60,000 baht, or both.
Murdering someone else in order to commit another crime is prohibited by criminal law in accordance with section 289(6). The death penalty is imposed for the offense.
Murdering another person in order to hide another crime or avoid punishment, according to Section 289(7) of the Criminal Code. The death penalty is imposed for the offense.
Theft committed while using force or threats, as defined by Section 339 of the Criminal Code. The punishment consists of five to ten years in prison and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 baht.
As her usage of cyanide falls under the category of a dangerous substance according to the official list, Sararat will also be charged with additional violations of the Hazardous Substance Act. A friend of Sararat and her ex-husband are being re-interrogated by the police, Big Joke declared. The buddy raised red flags by giving the police incorrect information after receiving the victims’ possessions that were given by Sararat’s sister-in-law.
The next stage in the legal procedure will be initiated when the case files are sent to the Office of the Attorney General by Thursday, June 8, according to Big Joke.
