A third passenger terminal will be built at Don Mueang International Airport, according to an announcement made by Airports of Thailand (AoT), increasing the airport’s capacity to accommodate up to 50 million people annually by 2029.
According to AoT President Kerati Kijmanawat, the airport can accommodate 30 million passengers annually and will soon reach its maximum capacity.
On the southern side, a new terminal will be constructed. 18 million extra passengers will be able to be accommodated yearly with the construction of 155,000m2.
On Tuesday, AoT also held its first public hearing to get comments on the proposal.
According to Mr. Kerati, the first and second terminals will be combined when the third terminal is constructed to accommodate the anticipated 22 million domestic travelers annually in the near future.
According to him, AoT would help lessen traffic in front of the terminal buildings.
He stated that there will be 12 airplane parking spaces at the third terminal.
AoT will create a new VVIP welcome facility and an office building for airlines in addition to remodeling its seven-story parking complex and enlarging the terminal.
At the Pheu Thai Party headquarters on Monday, Mr. Kerati met with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to discuss plans to capitalize on an increase in tourists during the high season. He was accompanied by officials of eight airlines.
Mr. Srettha received an update on the domestic and international air transportation scenario there.
