In an exclusive interview with the Bangkok Post, Mr. Naini highlighted Thailand’s potential to tap into the multi-billion-dollar cross-border e-commerce market, paving the way for the creation of export millionaires.
“Thailand is a key market for us in Southeast Asia and is acknowledged as a rising global market,” he remarked.
eBay’s annual “Exporter of the Year 2024” celebration took place in December 2024 at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel in Bangkok. The event brought together over 100 leading sellers from regions including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia to recognize entrepreneurial spirit and excellence in exports.
“Thailand excels in Southeast Asia, particularly in sectors such as gemstones, jewelry, and auto parts,” Mr. Naini added.
He attributes the attractiveness of Thailand’s export industry to its distinctive manufacturing capabilities, robust entrepreneurial spirit, and favorable government policies.
Raising Awareness and Support
“Our aim is to raise awareness among Thai businesses regarding global export opportunities,” Mr. Naini emphasized. “There’s a need to bridge the awareness gap in a market where large enterprises, SMEs, and individual sellers interact. eBay empowers all types of sellers with a complete sales ecosystem.”
He also underlined eBay’s offerings, such as onboarding programs and competitive shipping rates through the eBay shipping CPaSS platform. “Our integrated resources streamline the process, eliminating the need for separate shipping negotiations and facilitating a smooth international market reach,” he stated.
When asked about the specific export opportunities for Thai sellers, Mr. Naini explained that eBay is well-known for its transparent and competitive fees, reflecting its commitment to maintaining an open marketplace. “Our sellers are our priority; we don’t compete with them by selling our own products,” he clarified.
With just one click, eBay connects Thai sellers to over 190 markets, bypassing the need for expensive trade shows. Additionally, Thai-language support and advanced tools assist sellers in understanding global demand and trends.
“We engage the community through initiatives like workshops for Thai sellers in cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and we host sector-specific events, such as the Southeast Asia Automotive Top Seller Highlight in Bangkok on August 8, 2024,” Mr. Naini noted. The goal is to strengthen Thailand’s export ecosystem by fostering partnerships between Thai exporters and eBay, enabling them to sell on a global scale.

Cross-border e-commerce offers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. “Thailand has significant potential to cultivate multi-millionaire online exporters,” Mr. Naini observed. “By taking advantage of favorable conditions such as high-speed internet and streamlined customs processes, Thai businesses can ride the global e-commerce wave.”
“Once you consider cross-border trade, your mindset must shift to a global perspective,” Mr. Naini stressed, pointing out the necessity of having a global outlook to compete against markets like China, India, and the UAE.
He emphasized the need for exporters to minimize regulatory risks and enhance handling times. “We should focus on anything that improves the ease of doing business,” he advised. “If you want to attract buyers, speed is key. The quicker, the better for buyers. Thai exporters must not only comprehend buyer needs and deliver products promptly but also provide exceptional post-sales customer service.”
