Emirates launches next gen Business Class on the 777's

Emirates is introducing a new Boeing 777 business class design set to debut on flights starting in mid-August, breaking away from the traditional 2-3-2 layout known for its inconvenient middle seat.

The airline describes its “next generation” 777 business class as drawing inspiration from the A380 business class, featuring a 1-2-1 layout offering each passenger direct aisle access. Key features of the revamped cabin include a staggered seating arrangement, a personal mini-bar, a large dining and work table, and ample storage space. While details on technological amenities like wireless and USB-C power are limited, Emirates has hinted at incorporating advanced technology in this next-gen business class.

The updated Boeing 777 business class cabin will also include a small bar for in-flight snacks and beverages, following the model of Emirates’ long-range Boeing 777-200LRs. The refurbished business class section will house 32 lie-flat seats, reduced from the previous 42, alongside a dedicated area with 24 premium economy recliners. Additionally, the first-class cabin will undergo a refresh.

Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, emphasizes a consistent and streamlined product offering across the Emirates fleet. He highlights the shift from the existing 2-3-2 business class setup on the B777 to the new product, aligning with upcoming aircraft models like the 777-9X and A350.

Passengers can anticipate modern design elements, enhanced privacy in the new business class cabin, and a focus on customer comfort and value. The next-generation 777 business class is poised to mirror the A380 business class both in layout and core seating features, with the possibility of privacy doors being introduced.

The business class seats are manufactured by French aerospace specialist Safran, renowned for its SkyLounge product featured in Emirates’ A380 business class. Safran’s Unity business class platform, known for its spacious staggered 1-2-1 layout with sliding doors, is anticipated for Emirates’ Boeing 777 refurbishment and future Airbus A350 fleets.

Emirates plans to upgrade over 80 Boeing 777 aircraft with the new business class seats and premium economy cabin, aiming to mitigate ongoing delays in the Boeing 777X program. The refurbishment initiative is commencing this week and is estimated to require about two weeks per aircraft.

In addition to these updates, Emirates is preparing for the arrival of its first Airbus A350 in August 2024, with flights scheduled from mid-September. The airline is also working on enhancing its A380 fleet, ensuring operational longevity until at least 2041, with modifications to first class and business class cabins for a more contemporary feel and improved passenger comfort.

The Schedule as follow:

  • EK83/EK84 between Dubai and Geneva, from 11 August
  • EK312/EK313 between Dubai and Tokyo Haneda, from 1 September
  • EK183/EK184 between Dubai and Brussels, from 11 September
