EXAT bangkok one Feb 20 2024

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) has announced the launch of four new expressway projects valued at around 120 billion baht, aimed at driving economic growth and creating job opportunities in the country.

Exat Governor, Surachet Laophulsuk, indicated that the agency will soon present the four proposals to the cabinet for approval. Upon gaining the green light, the next step will involve initiating a construction bidding process.

According to Mr. Surachet, these projects have undergone comprehensive studies and are deemed as valuable investments that are anticipated to stimulate economic development and employment opportunities in Thailand.

The first project involves extending the Chalongrach expressway by 16.2 kilometers, connecting Chatuchot to Lam Luk Ka, with an investment of 19 billion baht. The second initiative entails constructing a 17-kilometer double-deck expressway from Ngam Wong Wan to Phaya Thai to Rama IX, with a budget of approximately 34 billion baht.

The third project focuses on the expansion of the northern expressway, linking the Prasert-Manukitch road to the Bangkok Eastern Outer Ring Road, covering a distance of 11.3 kilometers with an investment of 16.96 billion baht. The final project consists of the initial 3.98-kilometer segment of the Phuket expressway from Kathu to Patong, costing about 14.67 billion baht, as well as the subsequent 30.62-kilometer segment from Muang Mai to Koh Kaew to Kathu, with an estimated budget of 42.63 billion baht.

Mr. Surachet highlighted that the bidding process would commence first for the Chatuchot-Lam Luk Ka extension on the Chalongrach expressway. Exat is projected to finalize the terms of reference for contractors to participate in the bidding process, and construction is anticipated to commence later this year, scheduled for completion in 2027.

Furthermore, Exat has engaged in discussions with the Finance Ministry regarding the sourcing of the 19-billion-baht budget for the Chatuchot-Lam Luk Ka extension project, encountering no obstacles, as the agency has consistently delivered positive outcomes, as per Mr. Surachet.
