French Tourist Killed in Zebra Crossing Accident in Kanchanaburi
KANCHANABURI, Thailand – A 40-year-old French tourist lost his life after being struck by a car while using a zebra crossing in Muang district on Wednesday night.
Tragic Collision in Front of JJ Market
The accident occurred on Saengchutor Road, directly in front of JJ Market in Tambon Ban Nua, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Police, led by Pol Capt Thammawat Sukheewat, and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the victim severely injured, lying in a pool of blood on the roadside. He had multiple wounds on his face, legs, arms, and body.
Medical personnel provided first aid before rushing him to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
Driver Identified and Charged
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Krittaphat Kamrai, a local resident of Kanchanaburi, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. A breathalyzer test confirmed he had no alcohol in his system at the time of the accident.
CCTV Footage Reveals Impact
Security footage from the area captured the exact moment of the crash. The French tourist was seen walking across the road divider and stepping onto the zebra crossing when Krittaphat’s vehicle struck him at high speed. Police noted that the driver failed to apply his brakes, leaving the tourist no chance to evade the impact.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Authorities have charged Krittaphat with reckless driving causing death. He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
The French embassy has been notified, and the victim’s body has been transferred to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy.
