House agrees to marriage equality

LGBT Bangkok one

The approval of all four bills to amend the Civil and Commercial Code to allow same-sex marriages in Thailand during their first reading has received positive responses from society, according to government spokesman Chai Watcharonke.

The bills aim to redefine terms in the Code to ensure gender equality and diversity. They received strong approval in the initial vote and will proceed to a second reading. The government has expressed support for gender equality and has even sought to host the World Pride Event in 2028. Members of parliament from different parties and experts have expressed their satisfaction with the approval of the bills, although some specific conditions still need to be clarified.

The passage of these bills is seen as a significant step towards equality and has the potential to position Thailand as a model country for gender equality in the region.
