Laotian Woman Killed in Bangkok House Fire, Four Family Members Escape
News Story:
BANGKOK – A tragic house fire in the early hours of May 13 claimed the life of a 39-year-old Laotian woman in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district. Four other members of the household managed to escape, though one sustained burn injuries.
Emergency responders from Tha Kham Police Station and the Bang Khun Thian district fire brigade were called to the scene at around 2 a.m. after flames engulfed a four-storey residence in Soi Sakae Ngam 3. The building also served as a clothing shop.
According to reports from Channel 7, the fire is believed to have originated on the ground floor, where the clothing store operated. The blaze intensified quickly, fueled by a large stock of T-shirts and underwear, spreading rapidly to the upper levels.
Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour before bringing the situation under control. Despite their efforts, Duang Junlapong, a Laotian national, was found deceased on the second floor, unable to escape in time.
Among those who fled were a Thai woman, her mother, and two grandchildren. The mother sustained burns to both arms during the escape. The Thai woman later told authorities that Duang Junlapong was her sister-in-law and one of five residents living in the house.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.
