After breaking a metatarsal bone in his foot, Manchester United center back Lisandro Martinez will be out for the remainder of the year.
The 25-year-old was hurt during Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League quarterfinal match between United and Sevilla.
When Martinez was assisted off the field with United leading 2-1 in the 86th minute, Erik ten Hag’s team was reduced to 10 men.
Raphael Varane, Martinez’s partner at center defense, also suffered an injury and is anticipated to be sidelined for a few weeks.
The club stated that it wishes Lisandro and Rapha a fast recovery on behalf of the entire team at Manchester United.
Martinez, an Argentine World Cup champion, was assisted off the field at Old Trafford by his international teammates, Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna of Sevilla.
He was then transferred to a stretcher and sent to a hospital for care.
