Locals in the eastern province endured more than an hour of torrential rain, violent wind, and hail

The destructive force of the summer storms that were Monday rolling across upper Thailand struck Chachoengsao. Locals in the eastern province endured more than an hour of torrential rain, violent wind, and hail. Large trees were uprooted by the harsh weather, blocking highways. Significant property damage was also caused by strong wind and rain.

Two districts, Muang and Bang Nam Preaw, experienced landslides as a result of the storm’s heavy rainfall. However, neither incidence was associated with any fatalities or injuries.

More than 200 sellers at the Klong Chao Flea Market in Muang district huddled in fear as the steel-and-canvas canopy over their heads was buffeted and torn by the gale.

The steel frame finally toppled onto the stalls below after the wind finally tore the canvas away.

Fearing that the steel rods of the canopy would crush them, the sellers raced for safety.

No injuries were reported at the market, though.
