Maid Arrested in B430 Million Tax Evasion Case in Chon Buri

Maid Arrested in B430 Million Tax Evasion Case in Chon Buri

CHON BURI — A 54-year-old woman working as a maid has been arrested in connection with a massive tax evasion case involving multiple companies, with total losses estimated at 430 million baht, authorities reported on Sunday.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) identified the suspect only as Somboon. She was apprehended in the parking lot of an apartment building in tambon Surasak, Sri Racha district.

The arrest follows a long-running investigation into alleged tax evasion by at least three companies, including a shipping firm accused of systemic financial misconduct. Investigators discovered the company had failed to issue tax invoices, paid employees in cash without proper documentation, and reported suspiciously low sales figures.

Over a five-year period, officials estimate that the company evaded value-added tax payments totaling 186 million baht, including fines.

Ms. Somboon reportedly told police she had worked as a maid for a company in 2015 and had been asked by her employer to sign documents she did not understand. After receiving a police summons—which she admitted to discarding—a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the full extent of the tax evasion scheme and any additional parties involved.
