Meeting of the eight coalitions postponed to June 22nd

In order to wait for the Election Commission’s (EC) anticipated June 21 formal confirmation of the results of the general election held on May 14th, the eight coalition parties, led by Move Forward, have chosen to postpone their meeting to discuss the formation of a new government from June 20 to June 22.

According to a knowledgeable coalition source, the official certification from the EC will give a clearer picture of the number of constituency and party-list seats each coalition party has won, which is a crucial aspect in calculating the number of cabinet seats they will receive.

Except for the 71 whose cases are under examination, the EC is anticipated to declare the confirmed election results of 100 party-list MPs and 400 constituency MPs-elect. The 71 “problematic” constituency MPs-elect are made up of 21 Bhumjaithai party members, 17 Pheu Thai members, 16 Palang Pracharath members, 6 Move Forward members, 3 members of both the Democrat and United Thai Nation, 2 members of Thai Sang Thai, and 1 member of Pheu Thai Ruam Palang.

Reports from the transition committee are anticipated to be discussed at the meeting, which will take place at the Move Forward party’s headquarters.

The transition committee, presided over by Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of the Move Forward party and prime ministerial candidate, will meet on June 20 at the Thai Sang Thai party headquarters to discuss the most recent reports from all the working groups on various topics.

The Pheu Thai and Move Forward parties are still at odds about who will be the House speaker.

Move Forward, Pheu Thai, Thai Sang Thai, Prachachart, Seree Ruam Thai (Thai Liberal), Pheu Thai Ruam Palang, FAIR, and Plung Sungkom Mai are the eight alliance parties.
