Minor Tremors Felt in Northern Thailand After 5.9-Magnitude Quake in Myanmar

THAILAND – April 13, 2025 — Residents in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Mae Hong Son experienced light tremors this morning following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake centered in Myanmar.

According to the Earthquake Surveillance Division of Thailand’s Meteorological Department, the quake struck at 9:24 AM at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, located about 271 kilometers northwest of Muang district in Mae Hong Son.

Though no injuries or damage have been reported, several residents, particularly those in Chiang Mai’s Suthep sub-district, reported swaying ceiling lamps and shaking beds, indicating mild but noticeable vibrations.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, but there have been no immediate reports of property damage or further aftershocks affecting the region.
