Police Search for Mother After Monitor Lizard Found Eating Infant’s Body in Samut Prakan
News Story:
SAMUT PRAKAN – A horrifying discovery in Bang Phli district has left residents in shock after a monitor lizard was seen carrying and partially consuming the body of a deceased infant. Authorities are now urgently searching for the child’s mother.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on May 14 in Soi King Kaew 28. Rescuers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation were dispatched to the scene following reports of the gruesome sighting, as first shared by the Facebook page NAKON 45 อัญวุฒิ โพธิ์อำไพ.
Eyewitnesses told responders they saw a large monitor lizard with the baby’s remains in its mouth. The animal reportedly dropped the head of the infant on a road within the community and carried the lower part of the body beneath a nearby home.
Thanathorn Saelim, a rescue worker at the scene, confirmed that only the head was recovered. Attempts to retrieve the rest of the body were unsuccessful, as the lizard had dragged it into a concealed space. He also noted that the infant’s gender could not be determined and speculated the death was recent, given the absence of decomposition odors.
Police are treating the case as a potential concealment of birth or illegal abandonment and are continuing their investigation to identify and locate the child’s mother. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might assist in the case.
