Myanmar Conflict Sparks New Wave of Refugees into Thailand
TAK, Thailand – April 19, 2025 — Intensifying clashes in Myanmar have forced 233 more civilians to flee across the border into Thailand, officials from the Rachamanu Task Force confirmed.
At noon Saturday, fighters from the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 7, alongside Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO) Battalion 5 — both under the Karen National Union (KNU) — launched a drone attack on Myanmar military troops from Infantry Battalion 24 stationed at the Mophasu base in Myawaddy Township, just 2 km from the Thai border near Ban Huai Pla Kong in Mae Ramat District, Tak Province.
Following the strike, Thai authorities escorted fleeing civilians across the Moei River to a temporary shelter at Huai Pla Kong Monastery.
Colonel Nattakorn Rueantip, Commander of the Rachamanu Task Force, led a joint force of military, police, and local officials to secure the area and provide aid. Additional troops and support weapons were also deployed to protect Thai sovereignty and safeguard border communities.
Thailand continues to monitor the escalating violence in Myanmar closely as border tensions remain high.
