Nine Minor Earthquakes Shake Myanmar and Northern Thailand — No Damage Reported
THAILAND, May 10, 2025 — The Thai Meteorological Department has confirmed that nine mild earthquakes were recorded overnight from Friday to Saturday, affecting areas in Myanmar and northern Thailand. The tremors, ranging from 1.4 to 3.1 in magnitude, have so far caused no reported property damage in Thailand.
According to the Earthquake Observation Division, two of the quakes occurred within Thailand’s borders:
- Chiang Rai Province: A 1.4-magnitude quake struck San Sali Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District at 7:33 p.m. on Friday. It originated at a depth of 10 kilometers.
- Mae Hong Son Province: A 1.5-magnitude quake was recorded at 9:50 p.m. in Pong Sa Subdistrict, Muang District, at a depth of 3 kilometers.
The remaining tremors occurred in neighboring Myanmar.
Authorities are urging residents in quake-prone areas to:
