To address this issue, PETRONAS Lubricants International has launched PETRONAS Nexta, designed to help drivers “Choose Smart.” Following its unveiling on August 29 at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Uday Kumar, the Group Industrial Managing Director and Head of the Southeast Asia Cluster at PETRONAS Lubricants International, highlighted the company’s commitment to product innovation. Their premium lubricant, PETRONAS Syntium, is well-regarded in the Formula One racing world and among luxury vehicle owners, recognized for its superior technology in lubricants.

A comprehensive market analysis revealed a lack of lubricants that cater specifically to middle-income drivers who seek quality at reasonable prices, particularly within Thailand’s middle-income segment, which comprises a significant portion of car owners.

PETRONAS Lubricants conducted extensive research at their Global Research & Technology (GR&T) Centre in Turin, Italy, resulting in a new lubricant formulation tailored to meet the needs of this demographic, enabling Thai drivers to make informed choices with PETRONAS Nexta.

Uday explained that PETRONAS Nexta provides longer oil change intervals due to its enhanced oxidation resistance, keeps engines clean, protects vital engine components, and prolongs engine lifespan—all at an affordable price point.

“It’s about empowering consumers to make smart choices with PETRONAS Nexta,” he added.

He also mentioned that Thailand was selected as the launch market for this product, with plans to expand to other key Asian markets within the next 6-12 months, targeting consumers who seek high-quality lubricants at accessible prices.

Pipop Ponsean, CEO of PETRONAS International Marketing (Thailand) Co. Ltd., noted that since establishing the PETRONAS Lubricants International office in Thailand in 2006, the focus has primarily been on high-end consumers, particularly luxury car owners relying on PETRONAS Syntium.

He pointed out that, in addition to housing, cars are regarded as the second most vital asset for Thai individuals, including many in the middle-income segment, which represents a substantial market demand that PETRONAS Lubricants hadn’t previously addressed. The introduction of PETRONAS Nexta aims to fill this gap and empower Thai drivers to choose wisely.

“By exclusively offering premium products, you miss out on competing in the middle segment. Even during economic downturns, middle-income consumers carefully consider quality and affordability, making PETRONAS Nexta a strategic move to bridge that gap,” he stated.
