Phuket Lawyer Accused of Legal Misconduct and Affair with Client’s Girlfriend
Phuket, Thailand — A 29-year-old man from Kathu district has publicly accused a Phuket-based lawyer of professional misconduct and a deeply personal betrayal, claiming the attorney mishandled his legal case while secretly engaging in a romantic affair with his girlfriend.
The man told reporters he hired the lawyer for 40,000 baht to defend him in a criminal case. However, he was advised to plead guilty at the court of first instance, resulting in a prison sentence of one year and six months.
The lawyer later encouraged him to appeal the verdict, requesting an additional 100,000 baht for temporary release and legal proceedings he claimed would last another two to three years—time the client could use to “live normally.”
As the legal process dragged on, tensions reportedly grew between the man and his girlfriend, ultimately leading to their breakup. In a shocking twist, he later found photos suggesting his lawyer had become romantically involved with his ex-partner, including an image showing the lawyer in an intoxicated state with his head resting on her lap.
The man claimed the relationship between the lawyer and his former girlfriend began before their breakup, adding that he only uncovered the alleged affair after their separation. His suspicions were further fueled by a television news programme in which the same lawyer appeared, facing various other allegations of professional wrongdoing.
The case has sparked public interest and raised serious questions about legal ethics and client trust. Authorities have not yet announced any formal investigation into the matter.
