Police Hunt Malaysian Fugitive After Hat Yai Gold Shop Heist
Hat Yai, Songkhla – April 8, 2025 — Thai police have launched a manhunt for Yee Boon Long, a 61-year-old Malaysian national wanted for robbing a gold shop in downtown Hat Yai. Authorities say Yee stole 138 baht-weight of gold jewellery—worth about 7 million baht—from the Thai Udom 2 gold shop around 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday.
Yee, unmasked and armed, threatened staff before fleeing with the gold in a shopping bag. He escaped on a motorcycle later found abandoned 300 metres from the scene. Police have since issued an arrest warrant and are offering a 100,000 baht reward for information leading to his capture.
Authorities confirmed the suspect also goes by the Thai name Anucha Sae Yor. He previously robbed another Hat Yai gold shop in 2017, served prison time, and was deported to Malaysia in September 2023. He’s also linked to a major gold shop robbery in Malaysia two decades ago involving gold worth over 50 million baht.
Police believe Yee may still be hiding in Songkhla province and have expanded search efforts throughout the area.
