Police Reopen Investigation into 2012 Murder of British Teacher in Thailand

West Yorkshire Police have launched a renewed investigation into the brutal attack on British teacher Adam Pickles, who suffered catastrophic brain injuries in Thailand in 2012.

Pickles, a former head of English at Regents International School in Pattaya, was viciously assaulted with an iron bar in a suspected road rage incident in May 2012. The injuries left him in a coma, and after a dedicated fundraising effort, he was repatriated to the UK for round-the-clock care. He passed away in West Yorkshire in January 2021.

In a dramatic legal turn, Sean Tinsley, from Wolverhampton, was initially acquitted but later convicted of assault in 2015. The original charge of attempted murder was overturned on appeal, leading to a six-year prison sentence and a fine of 6.2 million Thai baht (£114,000).

Now, detectives are urging anyone with information—especially those who were in Thailand at the time—to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck emphasized the importance of new leads, highlighting the unwavering determination of Pickles’ family to seek justice.

“We’ve never felt vengeance or hatred,” his mother, Adele Pickles, said at the time. “We just wanted to be able to tell Adam that we did everything we possibly could to get justice for him and his son, Benjamin.”

Anyone with relevant information can contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101 or West Yorkshire Police’s live chat. Crimestoppers also offers an anonymous tip line at 0800 555 111 or online.

A recent appeal on BBC’s Crimewatch Live is available on BBC iPlayer for the next 30 days, alongside a 2017 video that continues to rally support for Adam Pickles.
