According to respondents to a recent poll by Thailand’s National Institute for Development Administration (NIDA), the Pheu Thai party’s two most popular plans are a three-year debt moratorium for farmers and a flat rate Bt20 electric train fare in Bangkok and its suburbs.
Also, each of Bangkok’s 50 districts should have a hospital, according to more than three-quarters (78.17%) of the population.
Between August 30 and September 1, NIDA polled 1,310 people from a range of professions, income levels and educational backgrounds about their views on the election policies of the Pheu Thai party.
According to the survey, 90% of respondents favour setting the electric train fare at Bt20 for the full route. 87.25% favour a three-year debt freeze for farmers; 86.18% favour a monthly minimum income of Bt20,000 for each household; 83.36% support the Bt10,000 “digital wallet” programme, 80.08% support a Bt25,000 minimum pay for BA graduates by the end of 2027, and 78.09% support a Bt600 minimum wage.
In addition, 70% want the people to write a new constitution and 51% want to test electing provincial governors in some provinces.
The policies that the respondents believed could be successfully implemented were also inquired about. The poll reveals:
- While 18.63% have doubts about the proposal, 68.32% are confident that the debt moratorium for farmers can be implemented.
- While 29.01% have doubts, 62% are confident that the “digital wallet” idea can be implemented.
- 48.09% of respondents think it’s possible to pay the Bt20 rail fare, compared with 30.15% who don’t.
- 31% think that each household’s Bt20,000 minimum income can be reached.
- 37.18% of respondents think the Bt600 minimum salary will be implemented by 2027, while 41.98% have doubts.
- While 36.64% think the Bt25,000 salary for BA grads can be attained, 41.14% don’t.
