The Thai government has instructed the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to extend the Red Line electric train system in order to improve transportation links between Bangkok and satellite provinces.
The extension projects include connecting Rangsit and Thammasat University’s Rangsit Campus to Ayutthaya, as well as extending the Taling Chan-Salaya section to Nakhon Pathom.
These projects are currently awaiting approval from the cabinet. Additionally, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has decided to transfer ownership of proposed electric rail projects, namely the Grey Line and Silver Line, to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA).
The ownership transfer is expected to enhance the efficiency of project management and operations. The proposal will be presented to the cabinet for approval next week.
