Royal Thai Police Seize Over 832,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel in Four-Month Crackdown
Bangkok, Thailand – The Royal Thai Police announced on Tuesday that more than 832,000 litres of fuel have been confiscated in nationwide operations targeting fuel-related offences during the first four months of 2025.
Pol General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, National Police inspector-general and director of the Centre for the Suppression of Fuel-Related Offences, said the crackdown aligns with the government’s urgent policy to curb illegal fuel activities. The efforts, conducted from January 1 to April 30, followed a comprehensive four-pronged strategy focusing on prevention, inspection, legal enforcement, and financial penalties.
Extensive Inspections Exceed Targets
Authorities carried out 4,642 inspections—4,480 on land and 162 by water—exceeding the targeted 4,400 inspections by 105.5%. These checks aimed to prevent smuggling and illegal fuel distribution across the country.
Nearly 400 Cases and 335 Suspects
Police handled 393 fuel-related cases during this period, with 166 still under investigation and 227 resolved with fines. A total of 335 suspects were apprehended, including 249 men, 106 women, four foreign nationals, and representatives from 22 corporate entities.
Millions in Illicit Fuel and LPG Seized
The confiscated fuel, valued at over 24.9 million baht, included more than 832,000 litres of petroleum products. Additionally, over 58,000 kilograms of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) worth around 2.1 million baht were seized.
Fines Surpass 4.3 Million Baht
So far, fines collected from settled cases amount to more than 4.3 million baht, with further penalties expected as the remaining 166 cases progress.
Authorities have vowed to continue strict enforcement to combat fuel-related crimes and safeguard national energy resources.
