Six Mild Earthquakes Shake Myanmar and Northern Thailand
BANGKOK — Six mild earthquakes were recorded across northern Thailand and Myanmar on Saturday, with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 3.8, according to the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division.
Two of the tremors were detected within Thailand. The first occurred at 12:45 a.m. in Banlao Subdistrict, Sung Men District, Phrae Province, measuring 1.5 on the Richter scale at a depth of 5 kilometres. The second quake struck at 5:16 a.m. in Tham Lot Subdistrict, Pang Mapha District, Mae Hong Son Province. It registered a magnitude of 2.0 and originated just 1 kilometre beneath the surface.
The most powerful quake of the day struck Myanmar at 10:55 a.m., measuring 3.8 in magnitude with a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located approximately 397 kilometres northwest of Mae Hong Son, at latitude 22.631°N and longitude 96.363°E.
No reports of injuries or property damage in Thailand have been received as of the time of reporting, the department confirmed.
Authorities are advising residents in affected areas to remain alert, inspect buildings for structural integrity, and prepare emergency supplies. They also recommend staying updated via official channels.
