Thai Police Arrest Two Men for Posting Firearm Threats on Social Media
Mueang Thong Thani, Thailand – The Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) has arrested two men who posted images of firearms on social media to intimidate rivals. The suspects, Satawat (25) and Pirawit (26), were detained on March 27, 2025, following an investigation into ongoing threats and violent behavior reported in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
The arrests were made after police executed a search warrant in Pho Sadet Subdistrict, Mueang District, based on evidence of frequent altercations among local youths, many of which were connected to the use of firearms. These incidents were reportedly happening near the Nakhon Si Thammarat Bus Terminal, where rival groups posted threatening images of weapons on social media.
Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwphan confirmed the arrests during a press conference, stating that authorities had gathered enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for two specific locations in the province.
- Satawat was arrested at a house near the bus terminal and was found in possession of a Glock 30 pistol and 16 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition. Satawat confessed to purchasing the firearm through social media for 30,000 baht (US$885), claiming he carried it for self-defense against rival groups.
- Pirawit was apprehended with a mobile phone containing loan records. He was revealed to be operating an unauthorized lending business, charging interest rates well above the legal limit. Pirawit admitted that he worked with Satawat, who was sent to collect debts by threatening debtors with firearms. The loans were funded by an external financier, not Pirawit himself.
The suspects are currently facing charges of illegal possession and carrying of firearms. They have been handed over to the Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station for further legal action. Authorities are continuing their investigation, with plans for further arrests linked to the illegal lending and firearm activities.
This operation is part of an ongoing effort by the TCSD to combat social media-related threats and violence in Thailand.
