Thai Woman Detained with Cocaine Worth 10 Million Baht

Thai Customs reports that a woman was detained at Phuket International Airport carrying more than two kilograms of cocaine valued at more than ten million baht.

According to Ms. Sukanya Wettayanukun, the head of Thai Customs at Phuket International Airport, on Wednesday (April 5th), they received a tip-off from a concerned citizen that illegal substances would be transported into Thailand via a particular airline.

A targeted piece of luggage that belonged to a 27-year-old Thai woman was examined by customs officials. Police seized a 2.35 kilogram bag of cocaine with a street value of more than 10 million baht.

To pursue legal action, the woman was brought to Sakoo Police Station. Police, however, refused to provide the media her entire name and it was not immediately obvious what her plea was.

In addition, customs officials only disclosed that the suspect is a Thai national and withheld the identity of the countries from which the woman had entered Thailand. It’s not the first time recently that cocaine has been discovered at Phuket International Airport. As we previously reported, an Uzbek woman was found in possession of more than 2 kg of cocaine in January.

And in June 2022, a young South African man was discovered with 1.49 kg of cocaine in his tummy at the Phuket International Airport in a story that gained notoriety thanks to the images, which may be seen here.
