TikTok video from Thai teenager surpasses 70 million views

A young Thai TikTok user’s participation in a song challenge, which required counting numbers aloud, has exploded in popularity, amassing close to 70 million views globally.

The challenge involved reciting numbers from 1 to 8. In Thai, the sequence 6-7-8 sounds like ‘Hok Jed Pad,’ reminiscent of “Ho get back” in English, complemented by hip-hop music.

Juralak Yanon, a 16-year-old girl known as Bam, posted the viral video, captivating international users who joined by singing along to the engaging track. The video quickly gained momentum, reaching almost 70 million views on the platform. Bam shared her entry under the username Barbiebombam_.

Expressing astonishment at the viral response, Bam disclosed that the video was initially meant as a lighthearted joke, focusing on lottery numbers, and she had only rehearsed a couple of times before recording it. The overwhelming international attention caught her off guard.

With a passion for singing, Bam had previously competed in a televised song contest. While a TV clip of her performance gathered 400,000 views over six years, her TikTok entry soared close to 70 million views.

Grateful for the overwhelming support and positive feedback, Bam expressed her readiness to explore opportunities in the music industry if they arise.
