U.S. President Donald Trump has reinstated a travel ban affecting nationals from 12 countries, echoing his controversial 2017 “Muslim ban.” The new restrictions, set to take effect Monday at midnight, block entry to the U.S. for citizens of countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, and others.
The move follows a January executive order directing federal agencies to assess potential security threats from foreign nationals. In addition to the outright ban, visitors from eight other countries, such as Cuba, Venezuela, and Turkmenistan, will face heightened restrictions.
Trump cited national security concerns as the reason, though critics see the policy as discriminatory. His original 2017 ban sparked global protests and legal battles before a revised version was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.
