The airline from Papua New Guinea intends to increase its operating area in the Asia-Pacific region. On June 5, Air Niugini—Papua New Guinea’s flag carrier—announced that it has placed an order for two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. In order to facilitate the expansion of the airline’s long-haul fleet, the newest Boeing clean-sheet aircraft will be deployed.
Additionally, according to Air Niugini, the new fuel-efficient aircraft would be used to fly new routes and increase the capacity for inbound tourism.
Expanding the airline’s Asian Pacific footprint
In order to reach the rest of Papua New Guinea, Air Niugini now runs a domestic network from Port Moresby. The airline also makes use of cross-border travel throughout the Asia-Pacific area. This covers travel to Fiji, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, Australia, and Singapore.
Nevertheless, one Boeing 737 and two Boeing 767s fly these routes. The airline plans to use the new aircraft to increase the number of places it serves. Gary Seddon, the airline’s interim chief executive officer, talked about the potential expansion this order will bring for the company.
Added Seddon:
By entering into this agreement with Boeing to buy two cutting-edge widebody 787 Dreamliners, aviation Niugini will be able to expand its network across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand and carry out its role as the leading airline in Papua New Guinea by offering the greatest aviation service in the area.
Since almost the very beginning of the airline’s inception, Boeing has been providing Air Niugini with aircraft for more than 45 years. But this is Air Niugini’s first purchase that includes the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The new order was discussed by Erika Pearson, Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Boeing in Southeast Asia and Oceania. She uttered,
“Air Niugini is able to connect Port Moresby to more destinations thanks to the 787’s great capabilities, boosting travel and the South Pacific region’s economic growth. Air Niugini will be able to offer better long-haul connection to the islands because to the Dreamliner’s flexibility, exceptional efficiency, and unparalleled passenger comfort.
One of the most sought-after airplanes is still the Boeing Dreamliner.
