Trump charged with hiding secrets after leaving office

Former US President Donald Trump has been charged with handling secret information after leaving office.

He posted a statement on Truth Social that read, “I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States.”

It is Mr. Trump’s second indictment; he is vying to be the Republican Party’s nominee for president in 2024.

The indictment’s specifics remain ambiguous.

The indictment was connected to the papers case, according to a source cited by the BBC’s US partner CBS News, and it included a number of accusations.

CNN and ABC News, as well as other US media outlets, reported that the indictment contained at least seven accusations.

A suspect can be prosecuted for the offenses with which they are accused thanks to an indictment.

The Department of Justice has been reached by the BBC, however it has not provided any information regarding an indictment.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was innocent and added, “This is definitely a bad day for the United States of America. Despite the fact that our nation is rapidly and seriously deteriorating, collectively we can “Make America Great Again!”

In April, after entering a not guilty plea to 34 charges of falsifying business documents relating to a hush-money payment to a porn star, Mr. Trump became the first former president to be charged with a felony.

He will stand trial in that case in New York the following year.
