A female traveler at Don Mueang Airport lost her lower left leg when she slipped and was sucked under a moving walkway after being struck by a piece of luggage. The incident happened around 8.30 am on Thursday, and the person who was scheduled to fly to the province of Nakhon Srithammarat was taken urgently to the hospital. The medical costs are being covered by the airport.
It wasn’t the first incident where a female passenger at Don Mueang Airport lost her lower left leg to a moving walkway on a Thursday morning. A passenger’s foot almost got crushed in 2019 when a moving walkway’s partially broken skirt swallowed up his slipper, but he was able to free it just in time.
Engineers have been sent in to examine, and the moving walkway was constructed in Japan by a respected company and used by many other airports worldwide, according to Karan Tanakuljirapat, director of the airport. Staff members at the airport inspect the moving walkway every three hours.
