Saudia’s new dreamliner featuring the retro livery

Recent reports indicate that Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, is about to get a brand-new Boeing 787-10 aircraft with the carrier’s gorgeous throwback livery. It will join the airline’s current Boeing 777-300ER fleet, which already sports the vintage livery with a few minor variations.

A livery

The Saudia logo is shown in white on a dark green background on the tailplane and engine cowlings of the new aircraft that will soon be delivered to the airline. A light and dark green stripe is located above a light and dark blue stripe that runs the entire length of the airplane’s fuselage.

In order to be delivered, this aircraft is now being prepared at the Boeing factory in Charleston. The airline’s 777, which acquired its throwback livery in September 2021 to commemorate the carrier’s 75th birthday, has a slightly different livery than this new aircraft.

The Saudia logo and the dark green hue of the radome on the 777 are absent, while the engine cowlings on this aircraft are painted white to match the fuselage. The big number “75” across the stripes on the fuselage also denotes the momentous occasion. Additionally, the 777’s tailplane is painted in a lighter shade of green than the 787’s.

The airline plans to display its retro livery on an Airbus A321neo that is now at the Airbus factory in Finkenwerder, Hamburg, as reported by Scramble.

The Dreamliner wasn’t the first.

While the new 787 that will sport the retro livery is the -10 model, the airline has also had a Boeing 787-9 sport a unique livery in the past. That aircraft’s special livery was unveiled in September 2021 along with the 777’s retro livery as part of the airline’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

The aircraft with this particular livery has a golden color scheme that runs throughout it, and the golden tailplane shows pictures of three members of the nation’s Royal Family. These individuals are King Abdulaziz Al Saud, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

Although the airline’s standard color scheme is maintained across the fuselage in this livery, a big golden ’75’ is imprinted at the rear of the fuselage.

Additional unique liveries

The airline introduced two 787-9s with a special livery in June 2021 to coincide with the country’s celebration of 2021 as the Year of Arabic Calligraphy.

Both airplanes had liveries that were written in calligraphy as part of the nation’s Quality of Life Program. Aiming to portray Arabic calligraphy as “an aesthetic icon that represents the Saudi identity,” customized liveries were integrated into airplanes.

The Quality of Life Program is also a component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 project, which intends to grow important sectors nationwide and lessen reliance on the nation’s oil reserves.
