In the Lat Krabang neighborhood of Bangkok, a section of an overpass that was still being built fell yesterday evening, leaving at least two people dead and ten more hurt.
Around 6 p.m. local time on Monday, a 500-meter portion of the elevated overpass under construction crashed onto the road below. The 2.2 km long On Nut-Lat Krabang elevated road project segment was being raised by a crane when it overturned, bringing the concrete and steel building tumbling down onto cars and commercial structures. The area lost electricity, and it wasn’t restored until after midnight.
The first person was killed instantly as the piece collapsed, according to Chatchaya Kamjan, the head of the Lat Krabang district office.
When the search and rescue crew surveyed the scene, he claimed they discovered the second victim.
He stated, “The injured were rushed to the closest hospitals for treatment.”
The preliminary results imply that either the hoisting device malfunctioned or that the crane may have been overworked.
Social media users shared images and videos of the fallen section and the crushed vehicles beneath it.
