In Bangkok, the term “street furniture” denotes an invasion of the already constrained sidewalk, increasing risks for pedestrians, in contrast to many other nations where it typically refers to something positive, such an art display or a playground for kids.
The examination into and implementation of solutions for the issues with street furniture in 50 districts of Bangkok was recently made public by the governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt.
A total of 27,128 locations on 329 sidewalks were identified to have issues.
These numbers include:
1,636 locations for the tools and switch boxes of the Metropolitan Electric Authority
16,655 stakes for electricity poles
Postbox, 375 mail
Tools and control box for the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, 12 places
Fire hydrant locations: 131
Tools, a control box, and 551 spots are provided by National Telecom Public Company Limited.

Additionally, the Department of Traffic and Transportation is responsible for 140 police stations, 2 local police station traffic sign poles, 28 control and tool boxes, 37 bus stops, and 1,369 parking spaces.
The Bangkok Environmental Department has also erected more barriers, including 68 trees, 3,339 trees, and 2,765 billboards and bollards in total.
More than 23,000 posts with impediments have currently been taken down in Bangkok by officials. The Bangkok Public Works Department stated that it will closely monitor the operation’s development but will move cautiously because some places are beyond of Bangkok’s purview.
