According to a report by payment-processing corporation Mastercard, Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya were ranked among the top 20 most visited cities in the world this year. Bangkok secured the top spot with 22.78 million international visitors. It was followed by Paris with 19.10 million visitors, and London with 19.09 million visitors.
Phuket ranked 14th with 9.89 million visitors, while Pattaya ranked 15th with 9.44 million visitors.
Bangkok maintained its leading position due to its vibrant street life, ornate shrines, and diverse food scene. Visitors can enjoy the city’s modern spaces, explore its golden temples and shrines, and indulge in the flavors of its street markets and floating markets.
Phuket was appreciated for its stunning beaches and karst islands, including two national parks. The variety of beaches, from the lively Patong to the luxurious Surin and Ao Bang Thao, attracted visitors. The opportunity for scuba diving and snorkeling in the Similan Islands’ glittering waters also added to its appeal. Phuket Town offered additional attractions such as museums, cooking classes, Chinese shrines, and wildlife sanctuaries.
Moving up three places in the ranking to 15th, Pattaya was praised for its beach activities and its central area known for its vibrant party scene. While Pattaya is also home to stunning temples and shrines, it is primarily recognized for its seaside resorts. Visitors can explore the city through guided tours and relax on the coastline, embracing a joyful and hedonistic atmosphere.
These rankings highlight the popularity of these Thai destinations among international travelers and their unique offerings, from cultural landmarks to beautiful beaches and vibrant entertainment options.
