The Thai government has introduced an Assistance Scheme for Foreign Tourist Injury and Casualty, aimed at providing financial support to foreign tourists impacted by accidents or losses while visiting Thailand.

Under this scheme, eligible tourists can seek compensation for incidents not attributable to their negligent behavior, encompassing offenses against the body and life, accidents, bodily harm, or death due to theft, rape, and public endangerment. The compensation details cover aspects such as death or dismemberment, permanent disability, loss of eyesight, total disability preventing occupational duties, as well as medical and domestic transportation expenses within Thailand. Claims must be submitted within a specified deadline.

The scheme offers coverage for bodily harm, theft, rape, and public endangerment, providing compensation for medical expenses, domestic transportation, disability, and death. Tourists holding existing insurance can request the balance up to defined limits, with a claim submission period of 15 days following the incident.

Compensation specifics entail up to 1,000,000 baht per person for death or dismemberment, 300,000 baht for permanent disability, eyesight loss, or total disability preventing any occupational duties, and up to 500,000 baht for medical and domestic transportation expenses within Thailand. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will make the final determinations on compensation, and applications can be lodged online or via post. The deadline for compensation claims related to incidents occurring from January 1, 2024, is set for September 15, 2024.
