The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of an unseasonal drop in temperatures accompanied by stormy conditions from tomorrow through Thursday.
According to Deputy TMD Director-General Natthawut Daendee, upper Thailand will experience unstable weather patterns, including thunderstorms, hail, and possible lightning strikes.
Following these storms, temperatures in northeastern provinces are expected to decrease by 5-8 degrees Celsius, while other regions will see a drop of 2-4 degrees. In Bangkok, thunderstorms are predicted to affect 20% of the area, with temperatures falling as low as 26°C.
This unusual weather shift is primarily due to a cold air mass from China, with additional influence from the polar vortex, which can expand from the North Pole into warmer regions.
Meanwhile, the South will experience thunderstorms over the Gulf of Thailand, the Andaman Sea, and several southern provinces due to easterly and southeasterly winds.
Thailand has recorded similar summer temperature drops in the past, notably in 2011, 2016, and 2022.
