Another Victim of Rama 2 Bridge Collapse Succumbs to Injuries

A worker who was seriously injured in the collapse of a cross beam on the elevated expressway under construction on Rama 2 Road has died, bringing the death toll to six, according to the Por Teck Toeng Foundation.

The deceased, a Burmese migrant worker, was pronounced dead at Taksin Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since the accident occurred on Saturday morning.

Relatives of the victim visited the construction site today in search of him. They were shown his smartphone and bag, which were recovered from the scene. Co-workers confirmed that he was last seen working on one of the cross beams before the collapse. The family later went to Taksin Hospital to claim his remains.

Meanwhile, emergency teams have called off the search for two missing workers after confirming that both are safe.

At the accident site, workers continue to clear debris, including fallen beams and steel. However, the process is slow, as the materials need to be cut into smaller pieces before removal. Heavy machinery, including mobile cranes and backhoes, has been deployed to assist in the cleanup.

The Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority reports that significant progress has been made, with approximately 80% of the main truss, 30% of the H-beams, and 50% of the tower support already removed from the roadway.

Officials estimate that the Chalerm Maha Nakhon expressway’s in-bound Dao Khanong toll plaza will reopen to traffic within seven days. However, the out-bound toll plaza is expected to remain closed for 30 days.
