Thailand has a rich history of producing superstars, with numerous talents making their mark on the international scene across various fields such as music, film, and fashion. Currently, the spotlight shines on New York’s famous theater district, as Myra Molloy steps forward as the first Thai leading lady to achieve this historic milestone in a Broadway production.

Myra Molloy, also recognized as Myra Maniphatson, rose to prominence in Thailand in 2011 by winning the inaugural season of Thailand’s Got Talent at the age of 13, mesmerizing audiences with her blend of classical and Broadway music. Her journey continued onto the global stage, where she reached the top six on ABC’s Rising Star. Despite her international success, Myra remains connected to her Thai heritage, lending her voice to Moana in Disney’s animated film.

Myra showcased her theatrical prowess during the 2018-2019 US tour of the acclaimed sung-through musical Miss Saigon, where she enchanted audiences as the alternate for the role of Kim.

Congratulations to Myra Molloy for making history as Broadway’s first Thai actress in a leading role! She is set to join the cast of the Tony Award-winning production Hadestown, which reinterprets the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The narrative follows the couple on a brave quest to the underworld, where Orpheus strives to save Eurydice.

Taking over the role of Eurydice from Hailey Kilgore, who will perform her final show on May 4, Myra will make her debut on May 6 at the renowned Walter Kerr Theatre.

This achievement is a proud moment for Thailand, highlighting the incredible talent that Thai performers offer on the world stage. With proper support from the government, we may witness even more Thai stars emerging internationally in the future.
