Thai Girl, 9, Left Blind and Disabled After Adrenaline Overdose at Bangkok Hospital

BANGKOK, Thailand — A routine hospital visit turned tragic for a nine-year-old girl after an alleged adrenaline overdose left her blind and suffering from cerebral palsy, according to renowned lawyer Ananchai Chaiyadej.

The girl, identified as Nuengthida “Fifa” Mungbuatong, was admitted to Luang Phor Taweesak Chutinataro Uthit Hospital on February 16 for diarrhoea and exhaustion. A doctor reportedly administered adrenaline to raise her blood pressure, but the dosage caused a sudden spike, cutting off blood flow to her brain.

By the next morning, Fifa suffered cardiac arrest and was transferred to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital in critical condition. Her condition deteriorated further, and by February 20, she had lost her vision, the ability to speak, and motor functions in her limbs. Doctors later acknowledged that the complications were directly caused by the adrenaline injection.

To make matters worse, the family alleges that the hospital informed them they would not continue care beyond the 30-baht universal healthcare scheme, citing that Fifa had already received “more than what the scheme covered.”

On April 10, Ananchai accompanied Fifa’s family to the Ministry of Public Health, seeking justice and long-term medical support. The Ministry has since pledged to investigate and explore all options to assist the child.

Ananchai also made a public appeal for any neurologists or rehabilitation specialists who may be able to help improve Fifa’s quality of life.
