Don Mueang Airport Gears Up for Over 100,000 Daily Passengers During Songkran Surge

As Thailand’s Songkran holiday drives a nationwide travel boom, Don Mueang International Airport is bracing for a flood of travellers, with over 100,000 passengers expected daily, according to Airports of Thailand (AOT).

Kirati Kitmanawat, AOT President, highlighted that the surge underscores the strong rebound of the tourism sector and renewed confidence among both Thai and international travellers.

“This is a positive sign for stimulating the economy and generating income for businesses in the tourism and related service sectors,” Kirati noted.

High-Tech Upgrades to Streamline Travel

To handle the increased passenger volume, Don Mueang has rolled out major tech upgrades, including:

  • Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS)
  • Biometric facial recognition technology

These systems aim to speed up security and immigration checks, minimizing delays and improving overall passenger experience.

Enhanced Services and Security

Airport authorities have also taken steps to ensure smooth travel during the holiday rush by:

  • Boosting public transport access
  • Deploying extra staff at key checkpoints and passenger assistance areas
  • Tightening security both inside and around the terminal

As one of Bangkok’s main gateways, Don Mueang is expected to play a pivotal role in handling the massive Songkran travel movement, reinforcing Thailand’s status as a bustling travel hub during the Thai New Year celebrations.
