Drunk Driver Plows Into Songkran Crowd in Chachoengsao, Injuring 12
A drunk driver in his 30s slammed his speeding pickup truck into a group of Songkran revellers in Sanam Chai Khet district on Monday evening, leaving 12 people injured, some seriously.
The incident occurred around 7:05 PM in front of an eatery in Khlong Udom village, Thung Phraya subdistrict. Emergency services responded quickly after being alerted by witnesses.
Among the injured, one person was trapped underneath the white Isuzu pickup, and bystanders had to lift the vehicle to rescue the victim. Ten people were rushed to local hospitals, while two others sustained minor injuries.
Driver Assaulted by Crowd After Refusing to Exit Vehicle
The driver, who was reportedly intoxicated, refused to exit the vehicle following the crash. Enraged witnesses smashed the windows and physically assaulted him before police arrived at the scene.
Eyewitness Nattawut Yongkul posted on Facebook that he saw the truck accelerate directly toward the crowd.
Police confirmed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and are holding him in custody for further investigation and charges related to reckless and drunk driving causing injury.
