Over 570,000 Passengers Travel by Train During Songkran Holiday

BANGKOK, Thailand – April 18, 2025 — The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reported that more than 575,000 passengers traveled by train during the Songkran holiday from April 11 to 17, with no reports of stranded travelers at stations nationwide.

SRT Governor Veeris Ammarapala confirmed that the holiday rail operations went smoothly, aided by 34 additional special train services and extra carriages on key routes to accommodate the surge in travelers heading home for Thai New Year celebrations.

The southern route recorded the highest passenger volume at 202,961 travelers, followed by:

  • Northeastern route: 154,925
  • Northern route: 105,033
  • Eastern route: 65,954
  • Mahachai route: 39,296
  • Mae Klong route: 7,705

On average, about 82,268 passengers traveled per day, with many returning to Bangkok by train on April 17.
