Four Indian Nationals Rescued from Kidnapping Gang in Bangkok
BANGKOK, April 17, 2025 — Thai authorities successfully rescued four Indian nationals who were being held hostage by a criminal gang for ransom at a house in Bangkok.
The rescue operation followed a kidnapping report filed by Sanjeeve Kumar, who learned of the abduction from the sister of one of the victims. Kumar’s two friends, Ramesh Sharmar and Amandeep Kajal, had been kidnapped by the gang on April 14 after meeting a fellow Indian national in Bangkok. The gang demanded a ransom of 2.5 million rupees (around 980,000 baht) for their release.
Kumar immediately reported the incident to Yannawa Police, who began an investigation. The gang’s hideout was located on Soi Sukhumvit 109 in Yannawa district, where police found four Indian nationals confined in a room. Two suspects were caught trying to flee, while three others guarded the victims.
The gang, which appeared to be composed of fellow Indian nationals, is now under investigation for unlawful detention for ransom under Thai Criminal Law (Section 313), with penalties ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty.
The police operation was hailed as a success, and the victims were taken into protective custody as further legal actions unfold against the suspects.
